Beme New Way Social Media

Beme: A new way for social media?

There are many social media apps and websites out there, some good and some not so good. But could a new social media app called Beme create a new standard for sharing within social media?

“Get off your phone” is a phrase youngsters hear all too often. We’d rather write, post and take pictures of the moment we are in instead of living in the actual moment.

Beme lets you do that. Beme is a new social media app that will put you back in the moment whilst allowing you to share. But how? It’s an interesting concept to say the least. When we use social media apps such as Snapchat & Instagram we can perfect every image and manipulate the moment to show what we want people to see.

Beme is about to put a spanner in the works for all your filter-lovers. Beme doesn’t offer filters, it doesn’t even offer the option to review your post before you post it, taken your picture or video? Too late, now it’s posted for everyone to see.

Casey Neistat, founder of Beme, wanted to create a platform where users can express themselves and share moments without having to perfect the image or video.

The New York Times interviewed Casey, he makes a great point about being able to consume your environment as well as capturing the moment for later. “How would I look if I were just talking to myself in a mirror?” Casey asked, “If I’m in the stands at a U2 concert watching Bono, how can I capture this moment without interrupting it and making it fake?” The point of Beme is to remove all the user input that today’s most popular social media apps have.

Beme – pronounced “Beam” – is at its core, a grey-and-black list of your friends. You’re not supposed to be staring at your screen to use it, “There’s nothing ‘cute’ or ‘twee’ about it,” Casey told The New York Times. “We want you to feel like you’re taking a peek under the hood.” Casey believes that existing social media apps like Snapchat and Instagram don’t portray us in our true form.

Beme works on 5 second clips that users can post and users following you will be able to see them and ‘react’. When you create a Beme there are no replays, it’s out there for your friends to see.

Obviously, the biggest aspect of this app is being able to do what you are doing whilst posting about it. That’s where the unique aspects of Beme start to kick in and set it aside from the others. Beme takes advantage of a phone’s proximity sensor, the app uses it as a button. When you are ready to record or take a picture, all you have to do is cover up the sensor. It will beep to let you know that the app is recording and once five seconds is up it will stop recording and beep again to notify you. Then it’s posted – no going back, no editing, adding text or filters.

Beme is currently reserved to users who have an unlock code. Get access to Beme here! Once you’ve downloaded it let us know what you think of Beme in the comments.
